Love Island: All Stars fans were confused to see a married star returning to the villa.
Long time Love Island fans will be well aware that season three contestant Marcel Somerville – who used to sing as part of the hip hop group Blazin’ Squad – has enjoyed a huge relationship since he left the villa the first time back in 2017. While his reality show romance with Gabby Allen, 32 – who is also back for the 2025 All Stars season – did not last, he later found love with Rebecca Vieira, 29.
The pair started dating in 2020, tied-the-knot in 2022 and are proud parents to three-year-old son Roman. But two years into the marriage, Marcel and Rebecca announced that their romance was over and they were filing for divorce.
The update has escaped some fans who were confused to see Marcel on Love Island when he is still, technically, a married man. One fan on X wrote: “I can’t believe this 40 year old married man is on #LoveIsland.” Another asked why verified hunk Scott Thomas was back on the show – before adding: “As for Marcel isn’t this guy still married?”
Another fan was desperate to know why the Blazin’ Squad star was back in the villa, writing: “Wanting to know why Marcel is there #LoveIsland.” Others were shocked to see the star back, with one writing: “Weird but just think about it … Marcel will be 50 in like 11 years and he’s come back to love island #LoveIsland.”
During the opening episode of the season, Marcel explained that he is currently going through his divorce and that he was back on the show in the hope of finding a new relationship that can last. And during the episode, there was some friction between Marcel and Gabby who were shocked to see each other back in the villa.
Show host Maya Jama was in the villa to welcome the returning contestants into the new season. Picking up on the fact Gabby appeared alarmed by Marcel’s appearance, the presenter asked how she was feeling.
Turning to her while the new cast got settled at the fire pit, Maya asked: “You ok Gabby?” The returning contestant commented: “Yeah, I’m great. It’s fine, it was a long time ago… I just haven’t seen him since.”
Maya then asked: “Gabby, did you expect to see your ex on All Stars?” to which Gabby replied: “No… [it’s been] six years!”
Marcel also addressed the slightly awkward situation, commenting: “Crazy things happened, but I do feel like afterwards we did speak and get to an amicable place. I haven’t got bad blood for Gabby. The universe has a funny way of bringing you back to things.”
Another star retuning to the villa for another chance at love included dancer Curtis Pritchard – who left the villa in a relationship with Maura Higgins in 2019. But the romance fizzled out – and he now claims that the Irish bombshell now ignores him when he sees her out and that they are not friends, “at all”.
