A lorry has overturned on the A12 southbound closing a major road between Suffolk and Essex and sparking delays for commuters.
Suffolk Police are at the scene of the crash that is understood to have happened today at about 6:15am. A spokesperson for the force said the road is likely to remain closed “for some time” in order for recovery of the lorry as well as for clearing the road.
A diversion is understood to be planned along the !1214 northbound, then along the B1113 through Washbrook and back onto the A12 southbound at Junction 32B.
Traffic cameras showed heavy traffic close to the scene of the crash, according to Mirror affiliate EssexLive. The overturned lorry has caused lengthy delays south of Ipswich this morning.
A Suffolk Police spokesperson said in a statement earlier today: “Police are currently on the scene of an overturned lorry on the A12 southbound just after the Copdock Interchange. The road is currently closed and is likely to remain so for some time until the vehicle can be recovered and the carriageway cleared.
“The diversion for traffic will be along A1214 Northbound, then along the B1113 through Washbrook and back onto the A12 Southbound at Junction 32B. We would ask for your patience at this time whilst the matter is being dealt with.”
A diversion is now in place following the crash. Drivers have been asked to consider taking the following routes.
It is understood the lorry was carrying rubble and its container is believed to have detached from the main part of the vehicle.
