Kremlin Denies European Accusations in Navalny Case

-

The Kremlin dismissed allegations from five European countries that accused Russia of being responsible for the death of Alexei Navalny two years ago by using a toxin derived from poison dart frogs. The Russian government stated that the claims were unsubstantiated. Navalny, a prominent critic of President Vladimir Putin, passed away in February 2024 at the age of 47 while in a remote Arctic prison shortly before Putin’s re-election in a vote that was criticized by Western nations for lacking fairness and freedom. In a collective statement, Britain, France, Germany, Sweden, and the Netherlands asserted that laboratory tests on samples from Navalny’s body unequivocally detected the presence of epibatidine, a toxin associated with poison dart frogs in South America and not naturally occurring in Russia. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov expressed Moscow’s strong disapproval of the European accusations, labeling them as false and biased. Peskov emphasized that Russia rejected the allegations, considering them unfounded and without merit.
