Jordan Pickford makes honest Everton admission after takeover saga finally ends

-

New year, new era for Everton – but Jordan Pickford is savouring the final moments of the Goodison Park years.

The Toffees are hoping 2025 will be the start of something special. The Blues have got new owners with the Friedkin Group and they have the keys to their new stadium on Bramley Moore Dock.

With new investment and leadership, they hope to be successful on the pitch in front of fans in a shiny, new and modern arena. But there will be a touch of sadness this summer when they wave goodbye to the Grand Old Lady, their home since 1892.

Everton shot stopper Pickford has been at the club for seven-and-a-half years now and become a fans favourite with his performances and passion.

Pickford may not have been able to help bring trophies to Goodison over the years but he has brought special saves, helped bring big wins and fought off relegation.

“I’ve been here for a long time, and I know Evertonians – what they’re like, what they’re about,” he said. “There is so much history at Goodison, in terms of winning titles and other trophies.

“That’s not something we’ve been able to achieve but to be able to play in the stadium for its final year, that’ll last forever, and it means something to me.

“I’ve got a great relationship with the fans and it’s about giving them something to cheer about, which is what we want to do. The main word I’d use to describe the relationship is passion. I feel like I’m very passionate, and they’re very passionate, too.”

Everton travel to Bournemouth on Saturday looking for points that will move them away from the bottom three. They want to be walking out at their new stadium in August for a Premier League game and not a Championship one.

Pickford is excited about the move and the future at the club. He added: “Having been able to see it for myself, I think the new stadium is going to be amazing. I know a lot of Evertonians who are passionate about the history of the club and how much Goodison has been part of that but this is a new chapter.

“It’s going to be about us enjoying taking on that challenge and creating our own memories there. I think it’s going to be a great thing for the club.

“Then, with the new owners coming in, I’ve always said that’s not much to do with us as players but it feels like a fresh start for the club as a whole.

“My part of that is doing my bit and contributing on the pitch. I’ve still got two years left on my contract after this one, so, 100 per cent, I am looking forward to moving in and hopefully playing my part in getting us moving upwards.”
