Jake Paul deletes immediate response to Tyson Fury retiring from boxing

-

Jake Paul has hinted that he is preparing to announce a rematch with Tommy Fury in a deleted post about Tyson Fury’s retirement.

The older Fury brother announced on Monday afternoon that he has hung up his gloves for good following his successive defeats by Oleksandr Usyk. “Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet,” Fury said in a video uploaded to Instagram.

“I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it. I’m going to end with this: Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side. Get up!”

Not everyone is convinced that Fury truly intends to retire due to his history of going back on retirements in the past and the prospect of a money-spinning fight against Anthony Joshua on the cards. Nevertheless, YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul took to X to share his thoughts on the announcement, before quickly deleting them.

“Well there goes the big announcement. Guess we need to refocus on the other Fury again,” he wrote. Paul is planning his next fight after overcoming a 58-year-old Mike Tyson in November and has promised an announcement this month.

He has been called out by heavyweight Daniel Dubois, who knocked out Joshua in September, and light-heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev, as well as Tommy Fury. The former Love Island contestant is the only person to have defeated Paul during his short boxing career and a rematch has been suggested for this year.

“Right, so I’ve just woke up and seen Logan Paul talk on his podcast yet again about how I don’t want to fight Jake and that I’m running scared,” Fury said recently. “I’ve seen Jake tweet the other day about how he offered me x,y,z on Netflix. I just wanted to come on here and say that no one here is running from this fight.

“I’ve beat you once already, I handed you your first loss. The minute you stepped in there with a real boxer… you lost fair and square. I can give you a second loss, that’s not a problem.

“But let’s talk some serious numbers down the phone. If you want to get in touch, you know where I am. It’s as easy as that. I can come back after a year and beat the pair of you. At the end of the day, if you want to fight, let’s talk some serious numbers… you know where I am.”

Fury has not fought since he defeated YouTuber KSI in 2023. He was due to take on former UFC star Darren Till later this month, but pulled out of the contest after his opponent threatened to kick him in the head if he was losing the fight. The 25-year-old has instead called out Conor McGregor in a post on social media.

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle in an unbeatable new deal that saves £192 and includes 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
