Jack Whitehall has been announced as the host of the BRIT Awards for the 2025 ceremony – returning four years after he last helmed the show.
The 36-year-old comedian hosted the awards from 2018 until 2021 and will be back this year to take control of proceedings again. However, his return is “not a comeback” according to show bosses.
Jack’s return was announced on Wednesday night as the official BRIT Awards social media channels shared the news. However, an accompanying message stated: “Don’t call it a comeback. @jackwhitehall returns to host BRITs 2025.”
An accompanying video showed Jack standing in the “BRITS Strategy Room” as he tried to figure out the winning formula to hosting the ceremony. Addressing the camera, the comedian says: “So I’ve had some ideas for the announcement video to cut through the noise.
“We need a slogan… ‘Jack’s Back!’ Yeah. Bit boring maybe? Once you go Jack, you never go back. And then we cross out the ‘never’.” A voice then asks: “Have we got anything else?” And the Fresh Meat actor says: “Maybe I’m getting bogged down in the puns…”
He then references returning American president Donald Trump by suggesting: “Make the Brits great again”. He then adds: “Spray me orange, I do the dance.” But the reviewing voice suggests that the plan might not please all viewers.
He then suggests a parody version of a popular song, referencing tracks by Stormzy and Taylor Swift. Footage then shows him trying to convince Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi to join him in a sketch, only for the star not to recognise who Jack is.
Eventually he settles on wearing a grey suit and simply stating that “Jack is back” to host the awards. The BRIT Awards are due to air on 1 March with a glittering ceremony to take place in London.
Earlier on Wednesday, it was revealed that Roman Kemp would not return to host the show after he co-hosted alongside Maya Jama and Clara Amfo.
A source told the Daily Mail of the change up in hosting for 2025: “Roman has been told he isn’t hosting this year. He loved it but accepts that these things change. He was flattered to be chosen to do it last year but he’s a pro and gets it.” The Mirror has contacted a spokesperson of the BRITs for comment.
Fans have complained online about Roman not returning for the upcoming awards – which are expected to take place in London on 1 March. Some have highlighted that Roman does, at least, have other TV work that he can turned to, with one commenting: “Oh well back to the One Show for him then.”
Roman revealed he was delighted to be announced as a host back in 2024. He said in an interview at the time: “When they told me, I cried. The BRITs has always been on this pedestal for me, because in terms of excitement in the UK, there is nothing like it.”
And following the awards, the star posted on Instagram: “And just like that, the Brits was hosted. Dream come true had so much fun on what was a very special night.”
