Gaza’s civil defense agency reported on Saturday that Israel conducted numerous air strikes and artillery shelling in Gaza City despite US President Donald Trump’s plea to stop the bombings following Hamas agreeing to a ceasefire agreement. Mahmud Bassal, the spokesman for the civil defense agency, described the night as extremely violent, with the Israeli army launching multiple air strikes and shelling not only in Gaza City but also in other parts of the Strip. Despite President Trump’s call for a halt in the bombing, Bassal stated that 20 homes were demolished during the overnight attacks.
Additionally, Gaza City’s Baptist Hospital confirmed receiving casualties from a strike on a residence in the Tuffah neighborhood, resulting in four fatalities and several injuries. Meanwhile, Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis reported that two children lost their lives and eight individuals were injured in a drone strike on a tent within a displaced Gazan camp.
The peace proposal for Gaza, introduced by Trump and supported by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, outlines a ceasefire, the release of hostages within 72 hours, Hamas’s disarmament, and a phased Israeli retreat from Gaza. Hamas indicated its willingness on Friday to free the captives detained in Gaza under the Trump initiative but expressed the need for negotiations on the specifics and a voice in determining the future of the Palestinian region.
