India and China are set to resume direct flights between specific cities this month after a pause lasting over five years, indicating a gradual improvement in bilateral relations, as announced by India’s foreign ministry. Despite China being India’s primary trading partner, direct flights between the two countries have been unavailable since 2020. IndiGo, India’s leading airline, has disclosed plans to initiate daily non-stop flights between Kolkata and Guangzhou starting from October 26. The carrier also intends to introduce a new route linking New Delhi with the Chinese city. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited China, marking his first trip to the country in seven years, to participate in a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation regional security alliance.
