‘I’m pregnant with our 20th child – people judge us but we love the chaos’

Having a big family with lots of children is goal that many desire – and one woman embodies that to the fullest as she is pregnant with her 20th child.

When Desiree met Christopher she had three children and he already had eight. They knew they wanted to also have more children together, but once they welcomed the first child, they couldn’t stop. In May this year, the couple will welcome their ninth child together, and 20th overall.

Desiree, who once had her waters break while filming a TikTok video, told YouTube’s Truly TV: “We actually described our family before as organised chaos. It’s very organised though.”

The family, who do 10 loads of laundry on a weekend, have a lot of supporters online who love their content but many who are less than enthusiastic. The viral parents, who boast over 64,000 followers on TikTok, have been told their love for having lots of children “should be illegal” and they have been accused of “overpopulating” the earth.

Speaking to YouTube’s Truly TV, dad Christopher said: “There are some toxic people out there as some people who just for whatever reason, just do not love families, They’re actually frantic about that.”

“You’re overpopulating the world,” one wrote on their TikTok page. “This should be illegal,” said another. One other wrote: “There’s absolutely zero way of all those kids receiving the empathy and quality one on one time they deserve.” “Y’all need to find another hobby,” another joked.

They couple have also been questioned on how they afford to have so many children and challenged on how they can give each child enough attention. Christopher said: “We have an open door policy at our house. When you need time, you get time when you want time, there is time.”

The family is excited to welcome the new baby later this year. Speaking about what she loves most about her family, Desiree said: “You’re never lonely, like everything is a big event for us.”

“The little ones growing up is my favourites – just watching them figure themselves out, figure out their surroundings,” Christopher said. “Some of the biggest challenges is the providing part – just making sure there’s enough power, water,” he said.

“On the regular I do two loads of laundry per day just to keep up with it. Saturdays probably like an extra 10 loads.” Thankfully she has lots of helpers who do chores too.

She described her family as “organised chaos”. The 20th baby is due May of this year and they are yet to find out the gender. “We have some nice comments, people are very, very excited but we have others who say ‘I just want to know how the heck that is affordable.”
