House on sale for £500k has bizarre unexpected feature as people all say same thing

An ordinary-looking house on the market for half a million pounds has got everyone saying the same thing after they spotted a rather unusual feature.

The home in St Albans, Hertfordshire, caught the attention of Housing Horrors – a TikTok page showcasing properties with quirky traits – thanks to its dedicated penguin shrine. Captivating curious house-hunters, the Rightmove listing reveals one bedroom crammed with penguin paraphernalia.

While the terraced property offers standard kitchen, living room, and bathroom spaces, this particular bedroom is decked out entirely with a penguin theme. In a TikTok tour video displaying the Rightmove ad, the social media user is shocked by the house and comments: “Oh my days, they’ve got a full on penguin shrine, absolutely everything in this room is penguin-theme. They’ve got penguin books, they’ve got penguin tea towels, they’ve got penguin prints, penguin pillows.

“Imagine going on a night out and bringing a girl back and you’ve got all these penguins staring at her. I think she would definitely run out the door.”

The narrator said they had never seen so much penguin merchandise in their life. “I think that is even a penguin snow globe. I wonder if the owners of this property like penguins, probably not, I’m not too sure but look at that massive penguin there. He is absolutely huge.

“They’ve even got a little penguin t-shirt there. This is absolutely insane.”

The TikTok video amassed 344,000 views, 7,465 likes, and nearly 200 comments. However, it was the price tag that really got people talking, with one person asking: “That being £500,000 is absolutely insane.”

Another weighed in: “£500k?! Surely like £170k if that.”

Meanwhile another speculated on how they had come to own so many penguin-themed items. They said: “They once told their granny that penguins are cute.” Another echoed the sentiment, saying: “What happened is, they mentioned they liked penguins and that was it! Now everybody buys them penguins for Christmas, birthdays or from holidays and they don’t have the heart to throw them away!”

Penguin enthusiasts were charmed by the themed room, with rave reviews like: “That’d 100% be my house, I’m obsessed with them!” and other endearing comments such as “this is adorable” and “I’d love it though”. A die-hard penguin fanatic even commented: “I’d pay £500k for the penguin collection but not the house.”

Curiously omitted from the Rightmove listing is any mention of the penguins, leaving it uncertain if the future homeowner could inherit the penguin ‘shrine’—a question raised by a hopeful user after watching the TikTok.
