The High Court division of the Supreme Court has rejected the bail petition of Khandaker Enamul Basir, suspended director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), in a case filed over allegations of exchanging Tk40 lakh in bribe with suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman.
The bench of Justice Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam passed the order and issued a rule on Tuesday after hearing the bail petition.
Advocate Faruk Alamgir Chowdhury stood for the bail petition; Advocate Kurshid Alam Khan stood for the ACC, while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin represented the state.
Earlier on February 9, 2020, a Dhaka court accepted the charge sheet against Mizanur Rahman and Khandaker Enamul Basir.
At the same time, the court transferred the case documentsda to Dhaka Special Judge’s Court 4 for quick disposal of the trial, and fixed April 4 for hearing on charge framing against the duo in the corruption case.
According to an ACC inquiry report, suspended ACC Director Basir took Tk40 lakh from ex-DIG Mizan to exclude the latter’s name from a charge sheet of a graft case.
Earlier on July 16, 2019, ACC Director Sheikh Md Fanafillah filed the case against Enamul with the ACC’s Dhaka District Coordination Office-1 under the anti-money laundering act, on charges of taking Tk40 lakh in bribe from suspended DIG Mizanur Rahman.
