“Government Official Confirms February Election Date Amid Preparations”

-

The Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, emphasized the clarity of the upcoming election schedule, confirming its set date in February. Speaking at a meeting with local journalists at the Netrokona Circuit House auditorium, he underlined the organized preparations being made by political parties for the upcoming polls, ranging from candidate nominations to logistical arrangements.

During the event, Alam paid respects to the July Uprising martyrs at the July Memorial Monument, reiterating the government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth electoral process. He asserted that the current administration would transition into an election-time government, emphasizing that the election was slated for mid-February and would proceed as planned despite any attempts to disrupt it.

Alam raised concerns about certain groups disseminating misinformation about the election, labeling them as remnants of the former oppressive regime seeking to sow confusion among the public. He criticized these individuals as paid agents of the previous authoritarian government, aiming to destabilize the democratic process.

Touching on the media landscape, the press secretary lamented the exploitation of journalists by media outlets, highlighting the discrepancy between the promised support for journalists’ welfare and the reality of minimal compensation offered, often limited to a mere press card. Alam expressed the government’s intention to address these issues to ensure fair treatment and support for journalists in the industry.
