The Fortnite Rail Gun has returned to the Battle Royale, albeit with a few little tweaks, but it’s still going to be a big deal for players.
The latest Fortnite update was a pretty big deal, with update v33.20 laying the groundwork for some major new content additions over the next couple of weeks – Hatsune Miku has taken over the Fortnite Festival Music Pass and her own Miku Item Shop bundle, the Godzilla secret skin cosmetics are set to arrive very soon before they make it to the island as a boss, and even more yet to come.
The update is already a joy, but there’s more to come not just in major changes to the island, but in additional unvaultings to help spice up gameplay with returning classic weapons. This is exactly true of the Fortnite Rail Gun, the returning weapon that fires out devastating blasts and lays players to waste with its vicious, high-impact beam. But how exactly can you find the weapon? And what are its damage values? Here’s everything you need to know about the returning Fortnite Rail Gun.
The Fortnite Rail Gun has officially been unvaulted after it was foreseen by Fortnite leaker @Hypex on Twitter, meaning that players can now find the weapon in-game. If you want to find the weapon for yourself, your best best is to dig around in chests, (blue ones especially), have a look on the ground when you drop in and take them from the drops of your eliminated enemies. There aren’t any spots on the map that offer the weapon with any certainty, so luck will have to be on your side. You’re likely to find one by the time you hit the top ten, though, so don’t panic.
In its return to version 33.20, the Fortnite Rail Gun has suffered some nerfs. The weapon appears in the game with three rarities, and they have damage values in the following format:
Rare – 85 (nerfed from 90)
Epic – 90 (nerfed from 95)
Legendary – 95 (nerfed from 99)
Each of these values are doubles when they are registered as a critical hit. It can also deal between 500 and 550 damage to structures without losing any damage as it travels through it, so if your foe is building to try to buy some time, you’ll be able to give them hell despite the wall they’ve built to keep you out. Its massive damage is compensated for by a long charge time, and a reload time of 2.7 seconds at its shortest, when it is of Legendary rarity, so be prepared to swap it out for something quicker once you’ve used it once in a firefight.
These nerfs are a minor change that likely won’t alter the weapon’s time to kill very much, but it certainly fits into the current roster of weapons nicely, especially as many of them are hitscan weapons much like the Fortnite Rail Gun. Either way, it’s still incredibly tough, and will be a major asset in-game. If you find one, hold it close – it could be the difference between a Victory Royale and a sulk back to the lobby.
