Fitness guru admits she ‘wasted years’ before finding way to shed 65lbs

-

If you’ve pledged to shed some pounds as part of your New Year’s resolutions, these handy tips could be just what you need.

As we ring in the new year, many of us will have set ourselves the challenge of achieving at least one goal over the next 12 months.

A lot of these resolutions tend to focus on boosting our health, such as quitting smoking or improving our mental wellbeing, but the most common pledge is to lose weight. However, sticking to these resolutions can be notoriously tricky, with some of us throwing in the towel just days into the new year.

But according to one fitness guru, if you’re looking to slim down this year, her advice could help ensure your success. Cassie posted a video on TikTok where she confessed to “wasting” years trying to lose weight before finally shedding an impressive 65 lbs in 2020.

She also managed to lose 75lbs following childbirth, which she achieved in less than a year. The expert’s first piece of advice was about dieting.

She urged people to steer clear of fad diets and trends that involve eliminating entire food groups. Instead, she suggested using a calorie calculator and inputting details about your weight and how much you want to lose.

This will then tell you what your calorie deficit is, and with the help of a tracking app you can log the foods you eat in a day to help you hit that number. She explained: “You don’t have to cut out foods, you don’t have to avoid foods, you don’t have to eat before or after certain times. You eat whatever you want, you just stay in a calorie deficit.”

Cassie’s next tip was to “find a way that you enjoy moving your body”.

She shared that she gets her exercise by walking either outside or on a treadmill for 30-45 minutes a day, but stressed the importance of finding an activity you love, be it walking, cycling, or dancing. The fitness guru also suggested setting non-weight related fitness goals, such as running a mile or lifting a certain weight, to maintain motivation even when the scale doesn’t budge.

She added: “You’re going to aim for consistency, not perfection. There will be days when you eat over your calorie deficit and you don’t exercise, and that’s fine. You’re not looking for perfection here. This is not all or nothing. This is a lifestyle change and this is consistency. Aim to be consistent 85 to 90% of the time.”

Cassie also shared some encouragement: “On those off days, it’s essential to remember that you haven’t failed. You’ve not undone all your progress and there’s no need to start over – just carry on the following day and keep pushing forward.”

Her candid advice resonated with many, drawing a slew of positive comments from viewers inspired by her approach towards weight loss goals for 2025. One individual expressed gratitude: “Thank you, I needed this. I’m so afraid of failing that I struggle to start. Taking away the idea of perfection helps! ” Another comment highlighted her inspirational impact: “You have inspired me, you came up at the right time.”
