There were concerns raised about the upcoming first division league as several clubs had expressed intentions to boycott the league due to issues surrounding the BCB elections. The Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) convened a meeting primarily with First Division clubs, and CCDM chairman Adnan Rahman Dipon later stated that the meeting yielded positive outcomes, indicating a resolution to the clubs’ participation concerns.
The clubs had reservations about commencing the league only seven to eight months after the conclusion of the previous edition, citing financial constraints and scheduling challenges. Notably, it was revealed that four out of the 20 first division clubs did not attend the meeting.
During a statement, Dipon mentioned, “Nearly all clubs were in attendance. No club indicated any reluctance to participate in the league. While there are differing opinions on the timing, everyone expressed their willingness to partake. The encouraging news is that they are keen on participating this year; they are committed to playing. We will soon announce the league’s start date.”
He further disclosed that they are aiming to kick off the league in November, notwithstanding the ongoing discussions regarding the timing among the clubs. Dipon emphasized that the CCDM has conclusively decided to commence the league in November.
Additionally, CCDM emphasized that, apart from addressing the financial and organizational concerns of the clubs, they are also evaluating suitable venues for hosting the league matches.
Dipon outlined, “We will initiate the league at venues like Bashundhara, BKSP One and Two, Keraniganj, Teghuria, and Mohammadpur City Corporation. Initially, we will utilize these grounds due to the ongoing National League matches until the 20th. Post the 20th, we can transition to BKSP.”
The CCDM chairman underscored the prioritization of the first division’s commencement, citing considerations for the players’ welfare and development.
He explained, “We are commencing with the First, Second, and Third Divisions first to ensure players have opportunities for progression. Starting with the First Division enables players to move between divisions if needed. This approach also considers weather conditions and optimal playing environments, especially as some First Division players transition to the Premier League annually. By focusing on the First Division initially, followed by the subsequent divisions, we aim to provide conducive playing conditions and opportunities for player development.”
