A man died under the wheels of the Titumir Express train near Golahat rail gate in Syedpur upazila on Saturday

10,000 yaba seized in Kurigram: Police detained a yaba dealer with 10,000 yaba pills from Sluice gate area in Rajibpur upazila on Saturday. The detainee Solaiman, 30, hails from Bahadurabad Bhatirpara village of Dewanganj upazila in Jamalpur. Assistant Superintendent of Police (Rowmari-Rajibpur circle) Mahfuzur Rahman said: “We detained Solaiman while he was carrying yaba on an auto-rickshaw to Jamalpur. A case was filed against him under the Narcotics Control Act.”

Man kills father in Manikganj: A man reportedly beat his 60-year-old father to death in Mojompur village of Harirampur upazila on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Ahammad Ali Pramanik. His son Muhammad Ali Pramanik is currently on the run.  Muhammad allegedly beat his father over a family dispute last morning. Later, Ahammad was rushed to the 250-bed Manikganj General Hospital where doctors declared him dead, said Harirampur police station OC Muid Chowdhury. He also said they were trying to arrest the accused.

Man crushed under train in Nilphamari: A man died under the wheels of the Titumir Express train near Golahat rail gate in Syedpur upazila on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Ratan Chandra Shil, 25, a resident of Porarhat village of the upazila. He fell under the wheels of the train while he was crossing the railway tracks, said Syedpur Railway police station SI Md Kaikobad.

Worker chained, tortured in Natore: A brick klin worker was chained and held captive in Gurudaspur upazila. The victim Ram Bosak, 35, say he was tortured for three days over the money owed to SSB Bricks, by a third-party, under whom Ram worked. Abdur Rahim, owner of SSB Bricks claimed Ram was not tortured, but was held so the debtor might show up, who disappeared owing the brick klin Tk6 lakh. Gurudaspur police station OC Mozharul Islam said a complaint was filed and police detained the alleged debtor and the brick klin manager.

Ex-UP member succumbs to bullet injury: A former union parishad member on Saturday succumbed to a gunshot wound he received during a shooting by an armed gang at Jamchharirmukh area of Bandarban Sadar upazila on February 22. The deceased is U Cho Thoai Marma, 60, confirmed Rajbila Union Parishad Chairman Kyangpru Marma. Previously on the day of shooting Bachnu Marma, 55, was killed on the spot.

Shanties gutted by fire in Barisal: Three shanties were gutted in a fire that broke out near the Jibananda Das Sarak in Barisal city on Saturday. Barisal Fire Service Station Officer Md Alauddin said the fire was brought under control at 12:30pm after an effort of a couple of hours. Locals claimed they have incurred a loss of around Tk20 lakh.

Debiganj to get IT park, says Palak:  State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak yesterday said the government has taken a project to construct Sheikh Kamal IT Park in Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh at a cost of Tk100 crore. He made the announcement while addressing a meeting at Nripendra Narayan Government High School after visiting the proposed site.
