Envoys representing France, Germany, the UK, and the EU in Dhaka emphasized the benefits of incorporating Airbus aircraft into Biman’s fleet alongside its current models to enhance the national carrier’s adaptability, resilience, and competitiveness. The discussion took place during the “European Dialogue on Bangladesh Aviation Growth” event hosted at the France-German Embassy in Dhaka.
Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet, the recently appointed French ambassador to Bangladesh, highlighted the significant collaboration opportunities between Bangladesh, France, and Europe due to Bangladesh’s rapid growth and strategic location bridging South Asia and Southeast Asia. He emphasized Airbus’s role in this partnership, with strong support from France and Europe.
EU Ambassador Michael Miller urged Bangladesh to ensure fair competition for economic operators based on commercial merit, emphasizing the need for a level playing field where EU operators are not disadvantaged compared to other trading partners, particularly in the strategic aviation sector.
British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke reaffirmed the UK government’s dedication to assisting Bangladesh’s economic development and its ambition to establish itself as a regional aviation hub.
German envoy Rüdiger Lotz pointed out the necessity for Biman to acquire modern, eco-friendly aircraft in line with Bangladesh’s expanding economy and growing middle class, emphasizing Airbus’s suitability to meet these requirements.
Rafael Gomez Noya, Airbus’s commercial sales director, and Monal Shesh, head of marketing, also contributed insights during the event.
