Dad’s ‘game-changing’ broccoli cooking hack shows we’ve been doing it wrong

-

Broccoli might seem like a breeze to prepare, but it turns out we’ve probably all been doing it wrong.

After years in the kitchen, cooking up this fibrous green veg might feel like second nature, but supposedly you shouldn’t be chopping it before boiling or steaming. Sidney, a social media savvy dad known for his life hacks, was gobsmacked to find out that dunking the entire broccoli head into a pot makes the florets a doddle to separate after they’re cooked.

Sharing his epiphany on TikTok, Sidney said: “Here’s something I didn’t know until I was in my 30s: broccoli should be chopped after it’s boiled?” He demonstrates by plunging the broccoli topside down into boiling water and after ten minutes, effortless removal with tongs follows.

Sidney can slice through the whole broccoli smoothly since the florets turn out incredibly tender, declaring: “It’s already falling off! Look at that, perfect.”

This method not only streamlines the process but also minimizes both prep time and the post-cook clear-up. Users in his comment section were equally astounded by the hack, with reactions ranging from “This has made my life so much easier” to “I went to culinary school and didn’t know this! “

Another user reminded us: “Remember to eat the stem, it is more nutritious than the florets.” Health app MyRealFood corroborated that Sidney’s method indeed simplifies culinary endeavours, , reports the Express.

A chef on the popular app shared a kitchen trick, saying: “Did you know about this trick for cooking broccoli? All you need to do is submerge the head of the broccoli in boiling water and then you can cut it off super-easy and super-quick.”

The app advises against wasting the broccoli stem, suggesting that it can also be prepared to create a tasty addition to any meal. The chef detailed further: “You can also use the [stem] to make something really delicious as a side for your meal. Just slice [the stem] into little slices, put it in the frying pan with some soy sauce, and there you have it.”
