A Chittagong University (CU) student named Mamun Mia, who suffered a critical head injury during a violent altercation with villagers on August 30, has undergone a successful skull replacement surgery at a private hospital in Chattogram. The surgery, performed by Dr. Ismail Hossain, an Assistant Professor in the Neurosurgery Department at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), took place at Park View Hospital, where Mamun had been receiving treatment since the incident.
Mamun was one of over 500 students injured in the clash between CU students and local villagers. Due to the seriousness of his injury, a portion of his skull had to be removed and preserved. He wore a bandage with a cautionary message “No bones, do not press” for weeks to prevent inadvertent pressure on his exposed head.
Dr. Ismail Hossain confirmed the surgery’s success, mentioning that post-operative complications led to the delayed public disclosure of the news. Mamun and another injured student are anticipated to be discharged within the next one to two days.
Dr. ATM Rezaul Karim, the managing director of Park View Hospital, reported that Imtiaz Ahmed, a 24-year-old master’s student in the International Relations Department at CU, who was also severely injured in the same incident, has fully recovered and is awaiting discharge.
