Conway leads New Zealand to victory in T20 thriller

-

New Zealand’s Devon Conway showcased an impressive half-century performance, propelling his team to a convincing 68-run victory over South Africa in the second Twenty20 international, evening the series at 1-1. Conway’s 60 runs off 49 deliveries laid the foundation for the home team to reach 175-6 after being put into bat at Hamilton’s Seddon Park.

Facing the Kiwi bowlers, South Africa struggled as they lost wickets at regular intervals, eventually being bowled out for 107 in 15.3 overs, with Ben Sears and Lockie Ferguson claiming three wickets each. The Proteas had previously won the first game in Mount Maunganui by seven wickets.

Both teams opted for second-string players, resting key individuals following the T20 World Cup. New Zealand, who finished as runners-up in the global tournament, saw Conway shine with a crucial innings, scoring five boundaries and two sixes in his 13th T20 half-century.

Conway expressed his satisfaction at contributing to the team after being on the sidelines during the World Cup. Meanwhile, Josh Clarkson made a quick 26 not out towards the end, and Wiaan Mulder picked up 2-14 for South Africa.

The tourists faltered early at 31-3 and faced a collapse, losing four wickets for just three runs before George Linde’s 33 added some respectability to their total. Mulder came into the lineup in place of the injured Jordan Hermann for South Africa.

The third match of the series is scheduled for Friday in Auckland.
