Claudia Winkleman admits it would be “hard” if a friend appeared on Celebrity Traitors.
The announcement for Celebrity Traitors came during the Edinburgh Television Festival last August, promising viewers a star-studded twist on the gripping reality game.
In recent months, names have been flying around over who may possibly take part, with celebs such as Daisy May Cooper and Charlie Cooper, Stephen Fry, Bob Mortimer, Paloma Faith, Alan Car, Courtney Cox and Clare Balding. But Claudia admits she hasn’t barred any of her famous friends, including her royal sister, Sophie – Lady Frederick Windsor, from taking part.
When quizzed by Radio Times about potentially barring mates like Strictly’s Craig Revel Horwood from the celeb edition, the 52 year old TV star confessed: “I haven’t vetoed anyone, but I think it would be hard if a great friend did it.”
On the topic of whether production for the new show had kicked off, Winkleman teased with a hint of mystery: “The weather has been pretty tricky lately don’t you think? Lots of rain the other day.” Meanwhile, the third instalment of the regular series is captivating audiences, as participants work out who among them are loyal “faithfuls” and deceitful “traitors”, with the latter scheming to ‘murder’ the former, while the faithfuls aim to expose and exile the traitors.
Contestants reaching the final stand to split £120,000, but should a traitor remain undetected until the end, they snatch the entire prize, leaving any remaining faithfuls empty-handed.
Reflecting on the current season, Winkleman highlighted that in the finale, players must “rely on their instinct even more” stressing that trust is “more vital than ever”. Winkleman confessed that she’s shed tears at the conclusion of the last two series of the show, and one particular eviction in series three had her sobbing because she “couldn’t stand someone leaving”.
When questioned about how she’d do as a contestant and whether she’d choose to be a traitor or a faithful, she responded: “I think I’d prefer to be a faithful, but I genuinely have no idea if someone is lying to me. My 18-year-old told me she’d done all her homework for years.”
Discussing the selection process for the traitors, Winkleman said: “It’s not down to me. There’s a group of us, including the brilliant producers and casting team. We go into a room and don’t leave until they’re chosen. If someone asks not to be a Traitor, they wouldn’t be picked.”
The Traitors will be back on BBC One and iPlayer on Wednesday at 9pm.
