Chase and Auguste Lead West Indies to T20I Sweep

-

Middle-order batsman Ackeem Auguste and captain Roston Chase played impressive innings to lead the West Indies to a convincing five-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the final T20I match in Chattogram. Despite a shaky start at 52 for three, Chase and Auguste’s partnership of 91 runs set the stage for the successful chase of Bangladesh’s target of 151.

Chase’s quick 50 off 29 balls, including five boundaries and a six, and Auguste’s explosive 50 off 25 balls, with five sixes and a four, propelled the West Indies towards victory. Both players fell in the 16th over, but by then, the visitors were well on their way to securing the win in just 16.5 overs. Rishad Hossain took three wickets for Bangladesh, while Taskin Ahmed struggled, conceding 50 runs in less than four overs. Shak Mahedi was the most effective bowler for Bangladesh with figures of 1 for 18.

In the first innings, opener Tanzid Tamim’s valiant 89 off 62 balls, comprising nine fours and four sixes, was the standout performance for Bangladesh. However, his efforts were not enough to lift the team to a formidable total as they were bowled out for 150. Tanzid’s dismissal in the final over by Romario Shepherd denied Bangladesh a late surge. Saif Hassan contributed 23 runs off 22 balls before falling to Jason Holder. The rest of the Bangladesh batting lineup struggled, with Tanzid and Saif’s partnership of 63 runs being the only notable stand before the team lost their last eight wickets for just 44 runs.

Shepherd’s hat-trick, where he dismissed Nasum Ahmed, Tanzid, and Shoriful Islam in consecutive deliveries, was a highlight of the West Indies’ bowling performance. He finished with figures of 3 for 36, supported by Holder’s 2 for 32, Khary Pierre’s 2 for 23, and Akeal Hosein’s 1 for 26.

In the final T20I match, Bangladesh made four changes to their lineup, while the West Indies made three changes as they had already clinched the series. With the win, the West Indies completed a series sweep over Bangladesh.
