BSMRSTU employees begin sit-in protest

The protesting employees took position in front of the administrative building of the university at 9am on Thursday and kept up with their demonstration till 12pm

As many as 176 employees of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU), who are working on a daily payment based contract, have begun a sit-in protest demanding their salary, which has been due for three months.

The protesting employees took position in front of the administrative building of the university at 9am on Thursday and kept up with their demonstration till 12pm.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Md Rafikul Islam, Nahid Sheikh, Md Mostafizur Rahman, and others have announced a three-point demand during the demonstration.

The demands include, paying the employees their due salary of three months, making their job permanent, and drafting a permanent policy for employees working on a daily payment based contract.

The protesters have announced that their protest will continue until these demands are met.

Prof Md Shahjahan, acting vice chancellor of BSMRSTU, said: “We don’t have the authority to appoint these employees. We have informed UGC and other concerned authorities about these demands. We will take action according to the instructions we receive from them.”
