Having the wedding of your dreams shouldn’t mean your guests have to be uncomfortable.
Many people spend years dreaming of their perfect wedding, and when the time comes to actually plan the big day, they already know exactly how they want things to go – from the venue to the food and even the colour of the napkins. But whatever your ideal wedding looks like, you should always make sure that your guests are having a good time, too. After all, you don’t want people to gossip about how miserable they were.
One bridesmaid, however, has discovered that her best friend is unwilling to compromise on her perfect wedding to ensure the comfort of her loved ones. The bridesmaid is currently eight months pregnant and is due to take part in a wedding this weekend, where she’ll be expected to walk in icy conditions wearing dress shoes.
The bridesmaid shared in a post on Reddit that the bride wants to take outdoor photos that capture the magic of the snow and ice in Ohio, USA, but she’s refusing to let anyone change into boots to make sure they’re safe on the slippery terrain.
She said: “I’m in a wedding this weekend in Ohio. It’s supposed to snow the rest of the week and be freezing this weekend. My friend wants outdoor pictures and wants us to wear our dress shoes instead of boots. I’m eight months pregnant and I’m concerned about it being icy and potentially falling.
“I’m not sure how to approach the situation and basically tell her I’m not wearing my dress shoes outside. My heels are very short, but my feet are swollen, and it’s still hard to walk. My dress covers my feet completely. I feel like it’s a safety issue, and I’m not willing to risk it.”
She asked fellow Reddit users if she was “being ridiculous” to refuse to walk in her heels, but many quickly backed her up, saying the bride should be more understanding of her situation.
One person said: “Don’t risk your health or your baby’s health for a photo. If the bride puts up a fight, don’t compromise – a photo isn’t worth more than you and your baby.” Another added: “If people can’t see the shoes, just wear the boots. If she’s a friend, she will understand someone being very pregnant and not wanting to raise the risk of falling.”
Another claimed they had sadly miscarried at six weeks after slipping on ice, and urged the mum-to-be not to do anything the might put the health of her little one at risk.
A fall during pregnancy is not immediately cause for concern, as the body has several safeguards to protect against injury, including cushioning amniotic fluid and strong muscles in the uterus. However, Health Line states that if your fall is very hard or hits at a certain angle, it can cause some complications, such as a placental abruption or even a skull injury to your baby.
Most of the time you won’t need to see a doctor if you fall while pregnant. But you should seek medical advice if you’ve had a fall that resulted in a direct blow to your stomach, if you’re leaking amniotic fluid and/or vaginal bleeding, if you’re in severe pain, if you’re having faster contractions, or if you notice your baby isn’t moving as often.
