BBC One has announced a last-minute schedule change to its Monday night programming as Scam Interceptors was pulled from the TV listings.
The broadcaster told viewers that it was making room in the schedule for a BBC News special, with the BBC One continuity announcer stating that a “change” in the listings had been made. “First on BBC One, in a change to some listings, Clive Myrie is in Los Angeles,” the announcer said.
While Scam Interceptors was due to air at 8:30pm on Monday, it was replaced by Los Angeles on Fire – a BBC News special looking into the devastating wildfires spreading across Los Angeles.
The BBC description reads: “As the most destructive wildfires in Los Angeles’ history burn down more than 10,000 buildings and force hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes, BBC News looks at how the devastating fires unfolded, and whether LA can rebuild. Meet those on the front line of the fight against the fire and hear from the people who have lost their homes and livelihoods to the disaster.”
The disaster has killed many LA-residents with Hollywood actress Dalyce Curry dying in the wildfires this week. The 95-year-old actress, who was best known for her roles in The Blues Brothers, The Ten Commandments and Lady Sings the Blues, was confirmed to have passed away earlier today after her Altadena home was destroyed in the blaze.
At the weekend, local officials confirmed that the death toll from the California wildfires had risen to 16 as emergency services took drastic measures to find human remains. The authorities have since deployed units of cadaver dogs to find human remains across Los Angeles, with the canines scouring tens of thousands of acres of burned land as a systematic grid search continues.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna urged people to “stay away” from the fire over the weekend, saying in a statement: “We have people driving up and around trying to get in just to look. Stay away.” Californians have also been asked to stick to established curfews and seek help from assistance centres if needed.
Alongside the more than a dozen deaths, the wildfires have displaced thousands of people as they burn approximately 56 square miles – an area larger than San Francisco.
