Bangladesh is facing a critical juncture as it grapples with the challenge of preparing its young population for the evolving job market. With over a third of its citizens under 35, the country must assess whether its education and social systems are adequately equipping the youth for success. Even universities like Stanford in Silicon Valley are seeing students express concerns about the relevance of their coursework, signaling a global disconnect between education and employability.
Apart from educational challenges, Bangladesh is witnessing a decline in social skills among its youth due to excessive social media use. The shift towards digital interactions is eroding traditional community engagement and human connection, raising questions about the impact on interpersonal relationships in the future.
Brain drain remains a pressing issue as talented individuals seek opportunities abroad for better prospects and recognition. The struggle to find meaningful employment within the country, coupled with limited job market prospects, forces many young graduates into temporary or mismatched roles. This trend highlights the need for sustainable job creation and support for budding entrepreneurs.
Furthermore, young Bangladeshis are navigating through a landscape of contradictions and moral dilemmas, both locally and globally. The discrepancies in values and actions by influential entities contribute to disillusionment among the youth, challenging their sense of right and wrong.
Despite these challenges, a wave of proactive young leaders in Bangladesh is emerging, advocating for change and actively participating in civic engagement. Their voices call for genuine support and opportunities to contribute meaningfully to shaping the nation’s future. Embracing and empowering the youth is crucial for building a more just and prosperous Bangladesh.
