The unveiling ceremony for the trophy of the upcoming white-ball series featuring the Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team and the visiting Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket Team took place at the Rajshahi Divisional Stadium on Sunday. Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty and Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu jointly revealed the trophy, kicking off the preparations for the multi-format tour.
The Sri Lankan women’s team, led by Athapaththu, arrived in Bangladesh on Friday to participate in a three-match ODI series commencing on April 20 at the Rajshahi Divisional Stadium. The subsequent two ODIs are set to be held at the same venue on April 22 and 25.
Following the ODI series, both teams will travel to Sylhet for a three-match T20I series scheduled to take place at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on April 28, 30, and May 2.
This tour signifies Sri Lanka Women’s debut bilateral series in Bangladesh. Previously, the two teams faced each other in a bilateral series in 2023 in Sri Lanka, where the hosts emerged victorious in both formats, securing the ODI series 1-0 and the T20I series 2-1.
Additionally, this series marks the commencement of a new chapter for Sri Lanka under the guidance of head coach Jamie Siddons, who boasts prior coaching experience with the Bangladesh men’s team in various capacities.
