Arsenal stars plan tribute to injured Gabriel Jesus before Tottenham clash

-

Arsenal’s players are planning a tribute for Gabriel Jesus, who has seen his season ended by injury, before tonight’s north London derby.

The Brazilian is a hugely popular member of the squad at the Emirates and Mikel Arteta’s players discussed how they could show their support after his huge blow this week. It is understood that they will wear specially designed shirts before they take on Tottenham.

The shirts will don Jesus’ name, his squad number 9 as well as a get well soon message, reports the Daily Mail. Jesus was forced off in Sunday’s FA Cup third round loss and has suffered an ACL injury. It has since been confirmed he’ll play no further part of the current campaign.

Jesus needed to be stretchered off the pitch on Sunday after going down in the first-half. He will now spend months recovering from the injury as Arsenal are left to deal with the setback.

The Brazilian’s injury was reviewed and the club then posted a statement on his situation which read: “Further to being substituted during our match with Manchester United on Sunday, Gabriel Jesus has received extensive assessments, scans and specialist reviews which have confirmed that he has sustained an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

“Gabby will undergo surgery in the coming days and will soon begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme. We will continue to keep everyone updated with Gabby’s recovery, with everyone at the club fully focused on supporting Gabby to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible.”

Jesus is one of the few natural strikers in the Arsenal squad, but even he has copped criticism for not being prolific enough as the Gunners chase silverware. His injury will now further test their attacking resources with Arteta under pressure to act in the market.

Calls for the north Londoners to make moves in the January transfer window are ramping up, especially after two cup defeats in a matter of days, and Arteta insists the club are always seeing if they can bring in new faces.

He said: “My answer doesn’t change, it remains the same – we are actively looking in the market to improve the squad, and that’s been the same since day one. It would be naive not to do that because it is always an opportunity to evolve the team and improve the squad, especially with the circumstances. So yes, we are looking and we are trying and let’s see what we are able to do.”
