A gang of miscreants wearing coronavirus protective masks robbed a pharmacy in Mohammadpur on early Wednesday, stealing a laptop and looting the cash register after beating a customer.

The men were armed with blades and steel pipes, according to witnesses.

Nahid Billah, owner of Billah Pharmacy at College gate main road, said a mini truck pulled up and parked next to the pharmacy between 12:30am and 1am. Nahid was about to close up shop after serving his last customer of the day.

A masked young man jumped off the back of the truck and began beating the customer with the handle of his blade. The commotion drew the attention of Shohag, security guard at a neighbouring ATM booth, and he came to investigate.

When the security guard arrived at the front of the pharmacy, two more masked men, one armed with a steep pipe and the other with a blade, jumped off the back of the truck and cornered him. The pharmacy owner, customer and security guard were forced into the back of the pharmacy on threat of death, and the masked men then proceeded to rob the store.

Abdul Latif, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mohammadpur police station, said a robbery case has been filed they are trying to identify the robbers from CCTV footage of the pharmacy.
