Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is presiding over the meeting that started Wednesday evening
The last meeting of the Awami League Central Working Committee (ALCWC), the highest policy making body of the party, started at Ganabhaban in Dhaka before the upcoming council session of the party.
Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is presiding over the meeting that started around 6:20pm on Wednesday.
Almost all the members of the ALCWC were present at the meeting.
In her opening speech, Sheikh Hasina said: “This meeting will continue till the national council of Awami League, which is scheduled to be held on December 20-21.”
She said the meeting will be adjourned for the day (Wednesday) and they will sit again on December 21, the second day of the council session.
In that session the present committee (ALCWC) will be announced vacant, she said.
“During the council session, councillors will form an election commission and elect their top leaders. Then a new central working committee will be formed,” Hasina said.
Party sources said around 7,737 councillors from all over the country will exercise their right to elect new leaders for the upcoming national council for a tenure of three years.
