Peru Impeaches President Dina Boluarte

-

Peru’s lawmakers on Friday made a decisive move by impeaching President Dina Boluarte, who declined to attend the overnight congressional hearing. Boluarte faced severe backlash for her inability to curb crime rates, with her tenure since December 2022 marred by widespread protests. The impeachment vote, led by Congress leader Jose Jeri, saw an overwhelming majority of 118 out of 122 legislators supporting the motion, effectively ousting Boluarte from the presidency.
