600 singers to perform in Shilpakala for Bangabandhu’s birth centenary events

A workshop to train these 600 singers was organized at the National Theatre auditorium of  the academy in Segunbagicha, Dhaka on Thursday afternoon

To celebrate the momentous occasion of birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) has taken the initiative of organizing multiple events over the next year. BSA has selected 600 promising singers to perform in these events. 

A workshop to train these 600 singers was organized at the National Theatre auditorium of  the academy in Segunbagicha, Dhaka on Thursday afternoon. The Director General of Shilpakala Academy Liaquat Ali Lucky presided over the entire event, and the chief guest for the occasion was State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid. 

The event was also attended by Shilpakala’s Music Director Chandan Dutta, and popular singer Sabina Yasmin; the latter was present to give the promising singers a special training.

On the occasion Sabina Yasmin said: “We need to make such arrangements as to ensure that Shilpakala’s artists are well trained and so that they can perform beautiful and good songs. I am very happy for being able to help the singers today.”

After the speeches, Sabina gave the present artists training on the song Jonmo Amar Dhonno Holo Mago. She also performed four songs:  Shei Rail Line Er Dhare Metho Poth Tar Pare Dariye, Akash Bhora Shurjo Tara, E Mati Noy Jongibader, and O Jar Apon Khobor Apnar Hoy Na on request from the promising singers.

Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky also announced during the event that the promising singers were trained in group song performance for seven days, starting from December 2, by prominent group song performer Sirajus Salekin.
