269 US citizens leave Bangladesh


Bangladesh has so far confirmed five deaths due to Covid-19, as opposed to 2,493 in the US

A total 269 US citizens with seven dogs left Dhaka to return to their country on Monday evening.

The US citizens left on a special chartered flight of Qatar Airways that departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 6:05pm, according to airport Security Director Group Capt AHM Towhid-Ul Ahsan.

US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller visited Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport earlier in the day to monitor the overall situation.

One new patient has tested positive for Covid-19 in Bangladesh over the last two days, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 49.

Bangladesh has so far confirmed five deaths, while the global death toll from the virus rose to 33,965 on Monday morning.

The US now has more than 140,000 confirmed cases.

As of Sunday evening, 2,493 deaths due to Covid-19 were recorded in the US, according to Johns Hopkins University.
