2 die from unknown disease in Thakurgaon

The whole area is under panic now

Two members of a family have died and three other members fell sick of an unknown disease in Baliadanga upazila of Thakurgaon district.

The deceased are Mina Begum, 35, wife of Hafizul Islam, and her sister in law Pashina Begum, wife of Hazirul from Songaon village of the upazila.

Quoting family members, local school teacher Selina Parvin Lovely said: “Mina fell sick and died on Friday and on Saturday, Pashina fell sick.

“She came back home after undergoing primary treatment at Baliadanga Health Complex, however, died early Sunday.”

Soon afterwards, three other members of the family — Tanjina Akhter, Hazera Khatun, and Aleya Akhter — fell sick and were taken to Adhunik Sadar Hospital, she added.

The whole area is under panic now.

Thakurgaon Civil Surgeon Dr MD Mahfuzar Rahman Sarker said a representative team of the health department has visited the village to investigate the cause of deaths.

The reasons of the deaths are yet to be known; however, the ones who fell sick are in better condition now, he added.

In 2019, four members of a family died due to Nipa virus in the same upazila. Locals are assuming the current deaths are occurring for the same reason.
