Military police hacked near Dhaka Cantonment

attack-to-police_Daily_Dhaka_TimesDaily Dhaka Times: A military policeman on duty at a check post at the entrance of the Dhaka Cantonment has been hacked up allegedly by a rickshaw-puller, reports bdnews.

Police said the attack at the capital’s Kachukhet was reported around 10am on Tuesday.

Sub Inspector Abdul Halim of Kafrul Police Station told that police rushed to the spot on reports of the attack.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Muntasirul Islam told, “A military policeman on duty has been hacked and one person has been detained.”

He, however, could not provide get any details about the identity of the attacker or the victim and the motive behind the attack.

The Inter Service Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) confirmed the incident.

“A military policeman has suffered minor injuries. Details will be provided later,” its Assistant Director Rezaul Karim told.

They told him that the military police (MP) personnel posted at the check post stopped a rickshaw from entering the cantonment area.

When he was about flatten its tyres, the rickshaw-puller hacked him up with a sharp weapon from behind.

One Md Salahuddin says he witnessed the sequence of events leading to the attack on the soldier by the rickshaw-puller.

The police are, however, yet to confirm his account. The injured MP personnel has been rushed to the hospital.

Locals have nabbed the rickshaw-puller. But neither his identity nor that of the attacked soldier is yet to be available.
