GP, SD Asia to promote mobile tech start-ups

GP_accele_SD_asiaDaily Dhaka Times: Mobile operator Grameenphone (GP) in partnership with a start-up community group named SD Asia came up with an announcement on Tuesday to launch a programme in search of mobile technology-based business plans in the country.
The programme ‘GP Accelerator’ is a platform for digital start-ups to find a foothold in the information and communication technology (ICT) Industry and explore their ideas freely, GP officials said during a media meet at a Dhaka conference centre.
There will be two four-month sessions with the first one starting in February and the second one scheduled in August next year. Five projects will be chosen to participate in each session at the end of which participants will be allowed the opportunity to present their business plan before the prospective investors at a given day, they said.
Selected GP Accelerator candidates will receive Tk 10 lakh as seed money and will have the privilege of working at the GP head office with complete logistic support. Each start-up will be mentored and guided by local and international resource persons.

Speaking on the occasion, GP Chief Strategy Officer Erlend Prestgard said, ”GP owns a vision to empower society using bless of technology. The GP Accelerator programme brings opportunity for us to contribute for society empowering local digital entrepreneurs. As a thought leader in the ICT industry, we are eager to use our expertise to support interested startups to come up with new digital services that can bring positive changes for the general people.”

SD Asia C0-founder Samad Miraly, said, “As ecosystem-builders, we learned firsthand what entrepreneurs need to succeed. That is why we are powering the GP Accelerator—to attract the best and the brightest and to provide substantive tools to build. The founder-friendly accelerator will help startups navigate the rocky roads of entrepreneurship and accelerate toward success. The GP Accelerator is an important step in developing the country’s start-up ecosystem.”

GP has been working with different organizations to encourage the local developers and entrepreneurs to come up with innovative digital services under its “Internet for All” ambition. GP Accelerator is one such initiative that aims to empower local startups to deliver cutting edge services for the ICT industry.
